i haven’t been looking to get to any of  the sxswactivities here in Austin except seeing cheap trick last night on the lakeshore but one other thing I wanted to make sure and get out for was the guitar conventionyesterday. Predictably I was admiring a particularly nice 50’s Gibson es295when I hear someone say to no-one in particular “is that the guitarGeordie uses?”  !!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
If you haven’t ever spent time in middle America you may not be aware of how stunning it is to just randomlyhear those words strung together! it was a strange thing to hear especially as theperson who said it was just throwing out there as if anyone within ear shotcould understand who the fuck he was talking about and give a quick “yeahmate” ‘er something. Ha! Well he got lucky in that sense, because thisgatherer was standing next to him. Folks, unless I were to turn to find oliver sheppardor elana mojica standing next to me, this just won’t happen. This islottery winning odds!
 
Granted, to be realistic it couldn’t exactly be lotterywinning odds as it is Austin and Austin is having the international set in townthis week for the sxsw music festival, so the odds have been rounded up a bit let’ssay. 
So, back to the story – 
When I look to see who made the sentence i see an obviously britishfellow standing there with a blonde pompadour, it was Klive Humberstone from theSheffield band - In the Nursery. I took hiscue of course, and we began to gab. I played him some GW riffs on the goldenharp, we talked about Geordie - his gear (of course), kj’s influence onITN, the reunion of youth, paul, geordie and jaz, and the upcoming album andmovie. He and his brother are definitely fans.
 
Anyway, having performed at clubs during many of the sxsw showcasessince 1989 I have become a bit jaded in my old age, and staying out of the messthis year I hadn’t spent much time looking to see who was featured thisyear. Hence, I don’t have a wrist band for attendance. But now I have togo see ITN at Elysium 8pm Saturday! Are any gatherers in town? anyone have anextra wristband???!
