[kj] sxsw in the nursery

i haven't been looking to get to any of  the sxsw activities here in Austin
except seeing cheap trick last night on the lake shore but one other thing I
wanted to make sure and get out for was the guitar convention yesterday.
Predictably I was admiring a particularly nice 50's Gibson es295 when I hear
someone say to no-one in particular "is that the guitar Geordie uses?"
!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

If you haven't ever spent time in middle America you may not be aware of how
stunning it is to just randomly hear those words strung together! it was a
strange thing to hear especially as the person who said it was just throwing
out there as if anyone within ear shot could understand who the fuck he was
talking about and give a quick "yeah mate" 'er something. Ha! Well he got
lucky in that sense, because this gatherer was standing next to him. Folks,
unless I were to turn to find oliver sheppard or elana mojica standing next
to me, this just won't happen. This is lottery winning odds!

 

Granted, to be realistic it couldn't exactly be lottery winning odds as it
is Austin and Austin is having the international set in town this week for
the sxsw music festival, so the odds have been rounded up a bit let's say. 

So, back to the story - 

When I look to see who made the sentence i see an obviously british fellow
standing there with a blonde pompadour, it was Klive Humberstone from the
Sheffield band - In the Nursery. I took his cue of course, and we began to
gab. I played him some GW riffs on the golden harp, we talked about Geordie
- his gear (of course), kj's influence on ITN, the reunion of youth, paul,
geordie and jaz, and the upcoming album and movie. He and his brother are
definitely fans.

 

Anyway, having performed at clubs during many of the sxsw showcases since
1989 I have become a bit jaded in my old age, and staying out of the mess
this year I hadn't spent much time looking to see who was featured this
year. Hence, I don't have a wrist band for attendance. But now I have to go
see ITN at Elysium 8pm Saturday! Are any gatherers in town? anyone have an
extra wristband???!
