[kj] Killing Joke in China

I have contatced the event organiders in China to ask them to confirm when KJ will be playing but have not recieved a reply. Which is quite typical... This event has been marred by non events in the past and lots of no shows. So my guess is not to hold your breath on this.

I have lived in China for ten years now and read with with interest the comments about China on the gathering. My two pence worth is as follows. China is increasingly looking like the west in the big cities in terms of infrastructure but all similarity with the west stops there. To say that western governments are just as corrupt as China is well a pretty dumb statement. Yes politicians are corrupted by power everywhere but at least in the west there are certain systematic checks and balances that give the average person a right via the media and ballot box a chance to highlight the worst excesses. This is not apparent in China.

China never has been communist apart from in name. The current set up is another is along line of totalitarian states. There never has been another way in China. The government is nothing more than a cartel of vested interests and mafia. The avergae person hates this system but have to play by the rules nontheless.

Since being away from the UK I find most westerners to be fairly self loathing about the west but take for granted what the average person here would love and that is freedom.

Check out www. chinasmack.com for a glimse into the madness that is modern China.

P.S. It's still a fun place to be...

The new CD is not bad but could the songs could do with a chnage of pacing at times!

Got mine yesterday from Finland also. Only took a couple of days to get here (here being UK. Thanks Arvid for recommending the site). The 4 tracks are superb. I'm not a dub fan, but I can't believe they've done 'Ghosts of Ladbroke Grove' - it's fantastic!!! Probably the most refreshing KJ song in well over a decade. If they have maintained that level of experimentalism for the album then we are in for a treat. The music definitely echoes the very early days. There's something that reminds me of 'Complications' and 'WTF' on one or two tracks, but the music is new all the same.I'm tempted to say that BPF and Youth have given the band something that was urgently needed - new ideas. But of course, I don't know if that was how the group dynamic really worked. Anyone got any lyrics to post? I've not had chance for a proper chin-stroking listen yet.And what's so bad about Ladbroke Grove these days?

?

Just thought i would mention that I have received my order of the CD from Finland in order to post to Mr Smiff in Hicksville, NYC.

The CD only release comes in a jewel case with the same artwork as the 10 inch.
The CD that came with the 10" as a package is only in a slip case with different artwork.
I've seen these appear on eBay as "promos"

What an exciting life I lead if I consider THIS shite newsworthy!!

Smiffy, it's in the post tonight mate!

And you could say the same of the UK USA Australian govts too ( feel free to add to the lists).

All regimes elected or otherwise, corrupt themselves the very moment they get into office.

Want to talk about Human Rights? Why the fuck is Guantanamo bay still open? Why is there a warehouse full

Why are so called civilized nations still putting people to death for their crimes?
Why did the UK govt lie and lie and lie about Iraq and the economy.

"Away With All Pests" by a doctor who witnessed the health care movement; "Fanshen", by William Hinton, an agriculture specialist

in the village (and anyone could vote regardless of party membership). There's another book (forgot the name) by a British industrial expert who
witnessed the worker-run tractor factories. He describes how everything from work hours to child care was decided by the workers, in what
seemed like chaos compared to our regimented work lives in the West, and that he saw them produce more than any European factory ever did.

In the purest sense? No. But certainly, they carried out more of the practices that define a communist gov't -- until some free-market ideals were introduced in the early 80s.
Doesn't matter, now -- the regime there is still miserable.
