This sounds like one of those songs that you keep waiting for it to start, and it never really starts...
I like some electronic-based stuff like later albums by Devo, OMD, Cabaret Voltaire, etc.--I like it when bands use electronics to SOUND electronic. The problem I have is when bands
(and 90% of mainstream music over the past several years) uses electronics to cheat, to sound like other instruments. You can get a synth to sound like any instrument, but
it's not the same as playing, let's say, a sax. Listen to most "world music" over the past 5 or 10 years. I can't, b/c so much of it is electronic--even those primitive sounding
drums and string instruments of Indian bangrha (I guess it's big in the UK) can be copied by synths. It also robs musicians of work, since one synth dude can create a whole band.

I have unashamedly liked electronic music since I first listened to Oxygene by Jean Michel Jarre on headphones in the dark at age 15. If I was being shot into space and forced to choose I'd probably take the Motorhead disc, but as long as I'm earthbound my closet isn't big enough to keep secret the amount of styles I listen to.

It has always fallen short for me when compared to more traditional forms of music in its lack of ability to conjure the primitive tribalism of a live, loud, fast, obnoxious, balls-out "rock" show. I say that with some caution, because I never attended a 3 day rave in the jungle in South America.

Hmm. I think I smell a new thread.

In the meantime, Fever Ray has caught my attention over the past year for those unfamiliar (pulling it off live is always a plus):

Thanks for entertaining this egocentric outburst.

That would be tragic more don't, and with a full Chelsea-Clinton-wedding size cake of irony in order then, since, the first song on the first ever Killing Joke album has nothing but an electronic pulse (not only) opening the song, (but also) sustaining it throughout and, at end, closing it (the song).

P.S. the first thing I evern noticed and liked about Killing Joke were the opening rhythms and keyboards of Follow The Leaders.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h92iB9WJ1Lc

I just think that 'we' are in a minority on the list here, in liking electronic music for starters...unfortunately it seems to translate to liking 'Trance' or 'House'...you know, that of the mass market variety..

I think everyone's missing the point (or just having a damn good humourous stab at djs). Just like nobody ever bought a record to watch it spin (not even a Killing Joke album), nobody ever goes to a club to watch the dj. Ever.
Watching him has nothing to do with what he does to the place. Just like no one ever turned on the radio (in its early years) to watch the radio but instead to let the story being told take you to an awesome place (think 'War Of The Worlds'). Also, no one ever went to an ancient storyteller just to watch him, but instead to trip out on his magickal storytelling talents that can take you to 'a much better place.' Only with a quality-dj/club you do the same for $20 + 2drink.minimum.

And yes, there is something magickal-squared to an awesome live performance that makes it better, IMO, than any dj gig and is why I will always prefer live gigs, but still, a good DJ who can really "carry a room" (and for, say, 4hrs. vs. a 90min. gig) is very much worth paying for also.

[looking at the current state of things..]

'Who has the fun..
..is it always a man with a gun...?
Someone must have told him if you work too hard... you can sweat"
