You mean you don't recognise the absolute genius of the Friday 13th
EP??? Limit Club? Disco Man?!! The next album Strawberries ain't to
everyone's taste, but I love it! The Black Album was kinda like their dark
psychedelia, Strawberries was the bright in many ways.

You can add the Clash and Pistols into that list too! And don't forget,
the Damned reason for wearing their own shirts was likely "this t-shirt
I'm wearing is fucked... where can I get another one... oh, there's that
box in the back of the transit van, that'll do...".

And being a damn pedantic, I must point out Mr Algy Ward played all the
bass on the Machine Gun Etiquette album. Lemmy played some bass on Ballroom
Blitz, the I Just Can't Be Happy Today b-side. Though I don't think he can
really remember much about it!

That's very weird about the Damned being seen as "sell-outs" after they
returned in '79. Never heard that one before, and it always seemed to me
they were one of the long-running faves amongst all sorts of "punks".
During 81/82 when the Exploited sorta stuff came along they were still a
huge favourite in this neck o' the woods. Grimly Fiendish, on the other
hand, well...
I do remember getting History Of The World Part 1 and commenting to a
friend "it's not all that punk though" to which he replied "oh I've heard
part two is MUCH better". Aye, fucking right!

Ha ha Oliver, I can imagine much confusion at hearing DDD/Phantasmagoria
side by side! "It doesn't even LOOK like the same band".
All this Damned-talk reminds me a saw the Brian James Gang a couple of
weeks ago... really enjoyed it all in all. Dave Treganna on the bass, doing
a mix of new stuff, Lords stuff and DDD classics. Dismal turn-out though.

Dave in Edinburgh (currently listening to Inside Extremities!)
