[kj] a little prediction for you

My admittedly distant read, or call it a prediction, is that if BPF did
come back into the fold, it would end quickly and badly, with an aborted
tour or some such clusterf*ck. He'd get fed up with Jaz once he got a
taste of the same old, same old.

One reason, I speculate, that the latest Raven debacle is so shocking to
many long-time fans (who might otherwise have known to expect it) is
that you would think -- you would hope -- that they'd have finally
"grown up" by now. That with the recent work they'd finally gotten it
together. They're f-ing middle-aged men, not teeny angst rock n'
rollers. BPF seems to have grown up; Jaz, tortured megalomaniacal genius
that he is, has not. From his interviews, his actions, his throw-away
lines, he comes off as an entertainer, yes, a fascinating, smart man,
yes, an instigator, yes -- but someone you could handle working with if
you didn't need it to pay your bills? In spurts, at best. While he
doesn't need Killing Joke and treats it that way (boasting of it to
whomever will listen), others do and I imagine that gets frustrating
really quickly.

Among Jaz's claims is that he was originally the choice for the Ben
Kingsley character in "Sexy Beast" -- a brilliantly written character in
a brilliant movie. I understand his attraction to the character. But
it's telling. Said selfish sociopathic character is funny and engaging
in fiction. In real life, as a working partner, misery.
