Grrrrr. Don't get me started on this. I often get a tremendous amount of grief for harping about this sort've stuff on ILM, but what do you expect from a gaggle of pabulum-engorged 50 Cent fans? The sartorial trappings of vintage Punk Rock/Metal are now being peddled to the Ashlee Simpson/Good Charlotte fans of the world and it stings my hide like a fuckin' angry scorpion. When I was coming of age in the early 80's, not only were cool t-shirts celebrating/espousing my favorite bands fucking hard to find, but I often caught a maelstrom of flak from certain popular circles in my schools for wearing them. Nowadays, pre-faded Ramones and CBGB shirts are sold in fucking Urban Outfitters, and supermodels and teen pop stars sport Motorhead t-shirts as if they were designed by fuckin' Dolce & Gabanna. About six months ago, I spotted a HIGH SCHOOL GIRL wearing a Plasmatics t-shirt. As a long suffering Plasmatics fan myself (and you can go ahead and quiz me on Plasmatics specifcs....no poseur I in that respect...I owned the records [however lame] and put in the hours), I hold their sullied legacy dear (here is band that never got their proper due). I wanted to grab the little rug rat by the fuckin' throat, slam her against the nearest slab of accomodatingly abrassive pavement and start constricting her fucking trachea unless she could ACTUALLY NAME THREE SONGS BY THE BAND SHE WAS ADVERTISING.

Yes, I'm old and obsessed with meaningles, fading trivia and just a swallow's flight away from a midlife crisis, but to my grave I will staunchly maintain the following: IF YOU'RE NOT AN ACTUAL FAN OF THE BAND, DON'T FLY THEIR FUCKING COLORS!

That seems to be the problem every which where these
days. The availability of music has taken such a sad
turn in recent years. Seems similiar to music video
stations. I'm not really sure how it is or was on MTV,
but i know that here in Canada, Muchmusic used to be
really cool. It was just a totally random selection of
videos throughout the day - the cure, queen, anthrax,
TLC, kate bush, elvis costello, violent femmes, etc
etc - just like a video jukebox, really. Then there
were also a bunch of shows, like the metal show, the
rap show, the alternative show, blah blah. Now, i
guess because people can see MTV via digital cable,
they feel they have to compete, so it's just a bunch
of horrible, celebrity-obsessed bullshit about cars
and contests and fucking slogan-spewing assholes. God
forbid you ever see a video in its entirety anymore.
Was MTV ever cool?

Anyways, it seems like the same goes as far as record
stores are concerned. I was in one today and there was
just nothing, nothing, NOTHING. I was getting so
pissed off, and coming around a corner and seeing
brand-spanking new Ramones shirts beside shirts that
read "Mullets Rule!" wasn't helping matters any. I
came out ok though. I got the new Locust EP which is
10 minutes of insanity sandwiched between interesting,
electronic breaks; a used copy of Lash by the Jesus
Lizard, and a DVD i didn't even know existed. It's a
Slayer show from their most recent tour and it's the
Reign in Blood album in full, plus a few other songs.
Pretty awesome. Anyways, sorry for rambling on and on.
I just saw Alex's message and it reignited all the
frustrations i was feeling earlier.
