firstly, i'm not demanding anything. why such harsh language? it was a mere
suggestion! and i seriously doubt it's essential to anyone. some people like
it, sure. but wouldn't the same people enjoy joe's boards just as much. it's
the content, not where it's posted that matters. joe's boards would have the
same meaningful on-topic content but without the spam and antagonist posts.
hence the _suggestion_.

>So the dilemma is whether the urls of these files need to be posted on
>this board or not, or even on any board as they might fall into the
>hands of pirates

no, that's not the dilemma. they don't need to be posted. end of story. they
were bought by a gatherer for the gathering. if people consider themselves
serious fans of the band who deserve these tracks then they should join the
list. there is simply too much danger of bootlegging to post these links on
a public forum. this is my opinion.

>This raises two questions (maybe more but im busy), the first being is
>there a need for them to be put on such a public forum and could another
>method be more productive to the aims of the person posting the URL.

that's the same question.

>The second being is whether or not the bootlegging is actually a serious

>So a few bootlegs is not really diverting financial resources away from
>the band or the fine work done by several off shoots. If anything, it
>may well be a more subliminal way of promotion.

what a contorted crock. raven was pissed off about the astoria cd, wasn't
he? what further evidence do you need???!

>The real issue it would seem to a casual passer by, is that some people
>want their way to be everyones way. Shut the board is cry and the excuse
>it the misuse of mp3 links. The reasons though are elsewhere and more
>self motivated I suspect.

honestly, it's not about that. i have nothing to gain from closing the
gathering message board. i'm barred from joe's boards so actually i have
something to lose. what self-motivated reasons do you suspect me of having?

>The fact that people want to share amongst like minded peers that they
>may or may not know is a credit to the characters, and whoever chooses
>to abuse that acts sincerity will face their own karma.

i'm sure that argument would go down well with the band.

>To deny a whole
>section of other people something that they value to suit the prejudices
>of a few is tyranny.

again, such extreme language. suggesting we close one board down so that the
very same people can move to a more regulated one - "tyranny!" you sound
slightly ridiculous. it's not about suiting prejudices. (you haven't even
explained to which prejudices you refer. you just offered some vague
speculation that it may be self-motivated.) it's about preventing playing
into the hands of the bootleggers, which we have already established the
band (or at least raven) are not happy about.
