interesting you say that, lately i have been enjoying playing all music on any system with the 
bass, treble and any other eq in the minus.

my preference having a basis similar to what you describe experiencing at that show...
i find music played with an amplifed eq sounds pushed, cloudy, and unengaging with eq. now i enjoy turning all eq in the minus zone and turning up the volume when needing "more" (whether in the car or at home). this way i seem to  be able to hear a better balance of the 
recording and experience more of what was recorded, as it was, without the histrionics and prejudces of a particular audio system.  

whatever, maybe i'm just getting old and have lost too many of those inner ear hair things
