About Yahoo!
Think about impacting 1 out of every 2 people online--in innovative and
imaginative ways that are uniquely Yahoo!. We do just that each and every
day, and you could too. After all, it's big thinkers like you who will
create the next generation of Internet experiences for consumers and
advertisers across the globe. Now's the time to show the world what you've
got. Put your ideas to work for over half a billion people.
About the Search & Advertising Metrics & Analysis (SAMA) group:
We produce information and insights to help improve Yahoo! Search and
Advertizing. Our analysts assess experimental changes to the user-interface,
monetization algorithms, and core search algorithms. We also monitor
production metrics and changes in metrics instrumentation to discern product
changes from other effects. In addition we compare the Yahoo user experience
to that of competing search and advertizing services to support strategic
planning.
Desired Attributes:
Apply your skills in metrics, experiment design, data-collection, and/or
quantitative analysis to clarify the user’s search experience, the revenue
consequences, and the possibilities for improvement in the Japanese market.
Translate business and engineering goals into experiments, and analyses into
actionable opportunities. Recommend statistical methods and explain their
merits at an appropriate level of detail. Judiciously choose the depth of
analysis suited to the competing needs of rapid product improvement and
solid knowledge development.
Essential Responsibilities:
Lead investigations of user behavior and financial impacts to identify the
most advantageous search and advertizing improvements in the Japanese
market. Collaborate with engineering and business colleagues to formulate
questions and plan studies. Recommend improvements to research practices.
Refine intuitive models using various types of data. Distinguish actual user
preferences from statistical noise. Determine appropriate experiments, data,
and analyses, developing analytic tools as needed. Interpret and present the
data in ways that colleagues can understand and act upon. Judiciously choose
the depth of analysis suited to the competing needs of rapid product
improvement and solid knowledge development.
Basic Qualifications:
Application of quantitative methods to determine and address organizational
needs;
Experience with software development, online products, or search technology;
Demonstrated teamwork within cross-functional teams;
Fluent in written and spoken Japanese;
Ability to visit Japan roughly once per quarter.
Preferred Qualifications:
MS in statistics or related field and 1 or more years of analytic
experience; PhD preferred
