[Scons-users] "Unknown compiler version" with MS VC 12.0

Using SCons 2.3.4 and setting MSVC_VERSION='12.0' in Environment,  I get the following error:
Unknown compiler version - please run the configure tests and report the results

The release notes suggest that VS12 has been supported since 2.3.2.

I tried web searching for "scons configure tests" but found no hits in the scons documentation or mailing lists.

How do I run the configure tests?
