[kj] Reissues

I can enjoy the previous mix versions---sometimes. We Have Joy seems to have at least 2 different mixes (not counting bbc appearances etc) and they are significantly different and both cool.
BUT with that being said it seems like the labels (not necessarily the bands) have been flogging the reissue corpses for some time. And as usual it hurts the release (in its purest, original, intent) and the bands in a roundabout way.
Anyone remember the Stooges Fun House reissue that had every stinking take and mix version of the songs on it. Ultimate overkill. After a while you forget why you're even listening.
Or how many reissues of the first 3 Motörhead releases are there with "bonus" tracks. At this point there's nothing left from that era but live shows and the quality is poor at best.
I am a sucker for reissues. Huge. But for me, at this point with this particular band, I want information that hasn't been seen or read before.

In theory, it would be great to hear previously unreleased tracks and/or genuinely different mixes. In practice, I suspect that there aren't many of the former left (i.e. that we haven't heard), and they probably aren't actually that good! So different mixes would probably be more interesting... early dub mixes of anything off the first two albums, for example.

That said, I quite like Hallucinations of a Cynic, and a better version would be very welcome.

I tend to be the music industry's ideal customer/sucker as far as all this is concerned, but
these would have to be fairly special to make me part with any cash. I would shell out to
hear unreleased songs from the early KJ era, for sure, but there are other ways of sweetening
the deal, for example a decent booklet - or even book - with interviews from the time and new interviews/comments with the
band, essays, any unseen photos, decent posters etc etc. There are still some of Youth's early dub mixes that have never been
released from the WTF...! era but like you say, the tapes are possibly lost for ever. But if it is just 'single edits' - ie
the same bloody songs but a few seconds shorter - then no.

I would love to own a decent high quality version of Hallucinations of a Cynic, rather than the tinny Youtube
recording we are stuck with at present.

At the moment, it's the releases up to Brighter that I know have been considered.
Pandemonium and Democracy had some work but it's a different label and I donlt know what is going on there - or Extremities.

I can tell you that there is not a huge amount in the vaults and tracking down the two you mention Nick didn't happen.
Even asking the band for copies of tapes etc proved fruitless.

These were requested for "listening" but never materialised

Millenium Reaction Dub
Offering
Lanterns with Violin
Hallucinations of a cynic (vox slave)
Mathematics of chaos (slave)
Jana (vox slave)
Labyrinth (drum slave)
HillBilly Blues
Honey (agent Orange)
Guilt
Running Through The Maze
Another Cult Goes Down

Never could find the Democracy album with teh loops that Geordie refered to
the thing is, masters have been left all over the place because of there being so many different labels and legal entities. No-One bloody knows!

Some of the tracks Scott mentioned are not actually band collaboratrions as well though they carry the KJ name
They may have been Jaz/Youth demos or things that Youth patched together from bits n pieces which Geordie maight not have approved of and vetoed.

As far as earlier releases go, there are just a few jams or alternate mixes, single edits etc. Things like Youth singing on Wardance etc. Curious but not vital,
KJ certainly were not terribly prolific.
Interestingly, Harlequin was considered for a single and a mix was done.
Also, around Fire Dances, they did alot of patching up. There are some funny "edits" on that album and it's now apparant that they recorded new bits to splice in here and there.

There are some live tracks that have been fished out but it really all depends on what the record companies consider viable financially!

Requiem on a banjo is quite good though with Jaz on a kazoo...............

I certainly know there must be two hidden gems from Pandemonium era.

Firstly Pandemonium itself, there is an extra verse on the Waxworth Industries
mix that has to be lurking on master tape somewhere considering the remix to be
incorporated back into the original, and then there is Another Cult Goes
Down.....unlike Snakedance from Pylon which has been released in its original
format who has ever heard the original that was used for Youth's Portobello dub
mix?
