[kj] jaz interview - mike james rock show - october 2015

If anyone else gets an interview with Jaz in the current KJ season, please consider asking:

-What did you think to Morrissey coming to your gig in LA back in 2004-ish, and did you hang out with him afterwards?

-Which bands would you say are your current peers? (And then when Jaz answers that KJ are peerless, briefly laugh like it was funny and then say: "No, but seriously, who?"). Or at least ask him who he likes these days.

-Did the band have a tough time at the end of the 80s when the post-punk alternative thing had run its course, and was there any conscious attempt to acquire a metal association? If it wasn't conscious, how did you feel about being dubbed metal and getting covered in the metal mags?

-How do you feel about entering the charts at number 11?

-Do you ever think you might be wrong, about everything?

-Do you look back on your Courtald lecture in 1988 with the same sense of embarrassment as one might look back on their teenage poetry 20 years after they wrote it?

I'd appreciate that, thanks.

I've just finished listening to it. No... he didn't fall back on the "best album of our career" quote. In fact, as the interviewer noted at the end, he didn't talk hardly at all about the album or tour.

There were a few Jaz cliches in there ("One of my band works for the Rockefellers", "I don't use computers") and the whole 40 minutes covered his views on society and the human condition, which we are all familiar with.

Nothing especially new in there, no fascinating anecdotes. The interviewer didn't really ask Qs, but just let him talk.

Jaz described KJ as "one of the most influential bands in the world". (Shall we have a poll on that?)

He said they are looking to play songs on this tour that they've never done live before.

A slight word of warning: he mentioned that he's a bit throaty. Thinking about it, he came over a bit drugged up flu meds; lethargic I suppose.

I haven’t listened as yet, but did Jaz fall back on the reliable quote that the new album is “the most explosive” of the band’s career?
