[kj] The Death & Resurrection Show Premier balls-up

I would love to see a 5 / 10 / 20 hour version of the documentary – obviously the longer it goes, the more you’re viewing raw footage. But I’m pretty sure most gatherers would be more than happy to spend most of a day or most of a weekend watching rare Killing Joke footage.

The 90 minute version will be more appropriate for casual viewers vs hardcore fans – however they did mention that a DVD will be forthcoming, and I expect the full 150 min version (and hopefully even a bit more) will be available on the DVD or perhaps a deluxe version of the DVD.

I shudder to think how much of his own money Shaun has had to fork out to get this across the line.

I have to share one anecdote with you. The biggest crowd reaction that I remember (laughter) came when a really interesting and strange Icelandic guy recounts an incident that happened in Iceland – it looks like some of the stuff they got up to in Iceland was really intense. So this guy is, for starters, dressed in a black and red hooded macickal robe with the hood pulled up, when interviewed, and just exudes this awesome ‘Killing Joke changed my life in 1982 and I’m still buzzing’ vibe. Mostly good weird, but a fair bit of ‘weird’ weird into the bargain. So he talks about an incident where his sister is ripping Jaz a new one for some personal reason, whilst naked and situated up on a balcony. I can only assume that Jaz had made some romantic transgression against her, but who knows. Anyway, she was dripping wet from the rain, starkers, and in mid-rant she is struck by lightning – the first of TWO TIMES that she was hit by lightning in Jaz’s presense. The way this guy describes events is at the same time hilarious and weird - he mentions lightning playing around and down her naked, smooth, wet body (way too much pervy detail from a brother…), her being protected from the lightning by the water transmitting it down into the ground (I’m not sure if physics actually works that way…), and Jaz then immediately taking advantage of the situation by ‘deifying her’ or somesuch, to this guy’s great approval, in front of everyone. Belly laughs all around in the cinema, was one of many genuinely hilarious moments. So wrong, but so funny.

The documentary conveyed that dualistic nature of Jaz, how he can convey a belief / idea / behaviour to the hilt with total earnestness, and then immediately mock it and himself and double over laughing at the idea of taking it seriously. I’m sure he can or could be diabolically difficult at times, but at the same time, when he gets going he’s thoroughly entertaining and funny. One thing I expect it will do is raise his profile, despite some of the more racy anecdotes.

Oh there’s also mention of the gathering list mention of ‘Killing Joke Island’ – I think that was one of mine.

Anyway I must get some sleep to get ready for the gig tomorrow, and possibly the following day (haven’t booked tickets so if I decide to go, it will involve about 9 hours straight driving).

Johnny Bongo – looking forward to seeing you =)

I have sent 2 or 3 hard disk drive full of my footages (1To each approx) since 10 years so I would say that Shaun is working on the project since more than 10 years

Just one thing to people who thought i was keeping the footages just for myself : they were wrong : I just wanted Shaun to be exclusive with them.

As he couldn't use all of them, there will be material left for future projects and i am very excited to discover like everybody what he used among all these hours...

More than that, Rehearsals, gigs and making of the last video in 2013 were not included.

I think it was something like 8 years, on and off, travelling all over the globe,

plus the last 18 months/two years finishing off the editing.

Like I said, I'm just hoping that during this time he learnt the value of abandoning all
hope and expectations when dealing with the band!

And how many years did Shaun spend on this project, exactly?

It's just disrespectful.
