It does seem entirely plausible (and it would explain why 3 locals of New York would take on an hispanic name and play punk music). After all, how many CENTURIES did we go on thinking Columbus was the "true" discoverer of the Americas? Can someone debunk (depunk?) the Peruvians?

If you haven't watched this then let it be known the mayor of Lima put up a plaque in a particular Lima street saying that punk music started there in the '60s. So they are serious about it!
And the band sounds pretty good. I would describe their sub-genre as death-surf punk.
