[kj] MMXII first listen

I have to disagree, MMXII I can listen to the entire album all the way
through. AD, I dislike 3 tracks, and it isn't as fluid/ consistent as MMXII.
MMXII to me the best work they made since Pandemonium and Democracy.

Indeed. Psalm 69 was the last Ministry album it's worth hearing (and it's
not all great).

With all due respect to the faithful departed (and I'm not sure how much
input Raven had in the later Ministry albums), Ministry stopped making
listenable albums circa FILTH PIG (and that's being charitable).

The more I listen, the more I'm inclined to agree. This album is
magnificent.

You're right about similarites of some new songs to older ones (like the
Glitch part taken from Intravenous/Majestic) but you'll see w/many bands
that have been around for a while that they repeat
themselves. Even amazing songwriters like the guys from Husker Du (check
'em out if you weren't around the US underground scene in the mid 80s) or
the Minutemen were repeating themselves on their last couple of albums.

Not to worry, although I haven't preordered it yet, I'll buy the Single(s),
Vinyl and CD - and shall do so quite happily. I like the gloomy EDVREish
atmosphere of "Pole Shift", "Fema Camp" and "Corporate Elect". "Trance" is
the only one, that hasn't had any effect on me so far and "Colony Collapse"
and Glitch would be other favs.
I'm very fond of the different atmos The Joke create on every single album
- I think they really *rock* in a dark way on MMXII - but I'll have to
admit that I'm a bit dissapointed by a certain sloppiness songwriting-wise.
That one part of "Glitch" is very similar to "Majestic" AND "Intravenous",
isn't it? And "Corporate Elect" isn't really something entirely different
from "MINOG". I like them nevertheless...
Isn't it funny, how of all bands the Joke seem to have no difficulty in
writing erm touching songs on a regular basis, that once would have been
filed under the gruesome term "ballad"? :-)

Yes, definitely could've made more out of that chorus than just breathing
over it...sounds amazing though. Like that Jaz allows the band to breathe -
definitely see your point though Rob.

Psalm 69 is all I can stand and I can't even listen to it anymore. And live
after Mind tour became a Spinal Tap-esque parody of themselves (whatever
that may be). I understand you can't bring 12 people with you to be onstage
(unless you're P-Funk) but the leather demons and bones brigade was/is so so
awful. And they even resurrected the "fence" stage for the "farewell" tour.
If you look at it it is not the same setup. Think of the scene in the movie
the Blues Brothers where they play Bob's Country Bunker. You were able to
throw bottles, people, loose change, anything you want. This one I don't
think it even went over Al's top hat. They probably scrapped off the side
of the road on their way to the first show.

I am miffed that they still have any fans as the music is sub-par at best
and overly done by their own doing. Even Raven couldn't save that ship.

With all due respect to the faithful departed (and I'm not sure how much
input Raven had in the later Ministry albums), Ministry stopped making
listenable albums circa FILTH PIG (and that's being charitable).

The new Ministry cd arrived in my hands yesterday - what a load of shit that
is , after listening to that you realise just how brilliant the new Joke
material truly is .

I think it's fair to say that MMXII is not as good as Absolute Dissent.

You're right about similarites of some new songs to older ones (like the
Glitch part taken from Intravenous/Majestic) but you'll see w/many bands
that have been around for a while that they repeat
themselves. Even amazing songwriters like the guys from Husker Du (check 'em
out if you weren't around the US underground scene in the mid 80s) or the
Minutemen were repeating themselves on their last couple of albums.

Thanks for the links and the nice way of pointing out that there might be
one. "Anyone feeling ambitious can check Bunalti, Torrentzap, Bitsnoop etc.
and let us know what they
find." hehehe.
I'm very fond of the different atmos The Joke create on every single album -
I think they really rock in a dark way on MMXII - but I'll have to admit
that I'm a bit dissapointed by a certain sloppiness songwriting-wise. That
one part of "Glitch" is very similar to "Majestic" AND "Intravenous", isn't
it? And "Corporate Elect" isn't really something entirely different from
"MINOG". I like them nevertheless...
Isn't it funny, how of all bands the Joke seem to have no
difficulty in writing erm touching songs on a regular basis, that once would
have been filed under the gruesome term "ballad"? :-)
