[kj] Pre-ordering on iTunes...whatsapoint?

Well...believe it or not I do not own a "flat screen" tv. All of mine are still tube and thus have the protruding ...roundness. Now I can't say if you can even buy a cheap, NEW, tube tv anymore (little thing).

I still find myself calling new releases by any bands "records". And records usually refers to a "lp".

Heh, I hear you. Was wondering about that recently.
On the theme of strange hold-overs from the old world, the description in the media of televisions as 'flat-screen' gets on my nerves.
All TVs are flat screen. They are just... TVs. During the UK riots last year there were

constant reports of looters going after 'flat screen' TVs, like they were exotic luxury items
usually out of reach of the normal person. There is no other type of TV!

Was just thinking about this this morning. What's the point of "pre-ordering" the new album -- or anything, for that matter -- on iTunes? Time was you pre-ordered something so you could get your hands on it first, or at the very least, have a physical copy reserved (i.e. set one aside with my name on it). That made sense. There'd be a finite supply of new copies, etc. etc.

With iTunes, though, the album will become available at the appointed time, and that will be that. It's not like iTunes is going to suddenly *run out* of it.

It's a strange hold-over from the old world.

Just a thought.

As you were.
