What I have been up to with my two synths is to capture the heart and soul of
the acoustic guitar and soulful singer, through the machines. Kraftwerk
developed their own genre because they didnt have anyone else to follow. their
songs always told straightforward stories. They legendarily spent huge amounts
of time developing the synth voices.
Whereas these idiots like La Rioux and Little Boots love presets. OOH LOOK!
ANOTHER CLICHE! LETS USE THAT. Viva Andy McClusky, who hated the wee Scottish
songstress.
1 - Drums carry half of a bum synth song. Dont use them (Human League first two
albums didnt have them, just a sequencer) unless you make some new ones up.
2 - Always start from scratch with your synth noises. (Unless you have ****ing
amazing presets on your Access Virus. Then mess 'em up.)
3 - Dont talk bollocks because it is all very machine wierd and Ballardian.
Tell us a story!
4 - Dont end up like Front 242, completely messed up with loads of flying
soaring noises all over the place and crap lyrics about sex and violence.
5 - Do not write lists like this to the likes of the Gatherers - they will tell
you to **** off and patronise someone else.
DISCUSS....

A discussion evolved in another thread that got me curious as to where everyone
stands on "electronic" music. Granted the definition can get cloudy and the
genres are quite varied, but, where do Gatherers stand? Ambient, Glitch,
Trance, Minimal, Shite? What do you like/hate and why/why not?
