[kj] OT: The Damned now random thread

The Worst Song I ever...hmm.

I was there in the 70's. I saw Donny and Marie on Top of the Pops, I saw Little Jimmy singing Long Haired Lover from...my hometown, in black and white. Blasphemy. I think that living through Paper Roses on the radio was the nearest I got to my parents World War 2 experiences. Bombs, sudden death, but I still maintain they were lucky.

Around 2002 I met a pal in the HMV store on Oxford Street. As I waited for him, I ventured within...there he was, fresh as a daisy through a lifetime of Mormon sobriety...DONNY OSMOND. He was sitting there, yes just sitting there, signing autographs as they played his...new album.

I was well within shooting range, or the use of a hand grenade. I who once shook John Lydon's hand. Yet, I was unarmed.

As my pal arrived and found me, they started playing his new version of Puppy Love. I told my friend to run. He didnt understand. I started to panic RUN! FOR FUCKS SAKE, RUN!!! We got out, barely...

Kevin Rowlnad provided one of the oddest festival moments I've ever seen at Reading 99.
Came on in ladies underware and launched into a set of songs such as Greatest Love Of All and the like. Very very odd.

Laboratory experiments have conclusively proved that Come On Eileen isn't actually the worst song ever - but listeners often believe that it is because the band had previously been responsible for fantastic stuff like Geno.

Here's some of the research material:

Me too on the "Come on Eileen". It's the worst.

One of my most hated songs in the world is "Come On Eileen". Not only does it suck, it sucks for about 6 minutes. "I Will Survive" is another that I can't stand. I think that song should be completely banned for life. And I don't like one thing Bob Marley has ever sung into a microphone but "Jamming" in particular: Most boring song in the history of music? A contender for sure.

I hear the drum similarities, but the drums aside I'd still say it feels/sounds more
like Bay City Rollers' Saturday Night http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utt7i8ugnA8&feature=related
Tension http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWyUByNNiLY
My Sharona http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVdnqEyToqg
but then, i am biased towards the 1st two.

While on Soft Cell, "It's a Mug's Game" is also very good, something to have ringing around your head as you're slumped in some doorway sobering up in the morning.
One of THEE WORST songs ever, to my ears, is this horrid abuse of
soundwaves by Dire Straits, Money for Nothing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAD6Obi7Cag

Every about "Footloose" was utter, utter, utter CRAP, ...... BUT...

I like "My Sharona" (and so does Killing Joke -- listen to "Tension" why don'tcha?)

I like Yes (and so does Killing Joke, although admittedly "Owner of Lonely Heart" wasn't their finest hour)

"Tainted Love" by Soft Cell is fucking brilliant, as is "She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dobly (as is much of the rest of the album that spawned it).

Remember: Pop music is not the enemy. BAD pop music is the enemy.

For example, one of the worst songs ever, actually one of the worst pieces of music ever in any
genre, actually one of the worst SOUNDS ever since humans evolved to be able to hear, is obviously "My Sharona" by the Knack. Runners up--Owner of a Lonely Heart by Yes,
Tainted Love, She Blinded Me With Science, and of course the theme song to the movie Footloose. Boy, the 80s have left some scars in terms of bad music!!
