[kj] [Bulk] Re: Top 50 songs of 2000-2010

The one time I saw them she was awful, obviously couldn't keep a beat. Lost
it several times. So from what I saw she couldn't even perform the basics.
Regardless of any wizardy, which I'm not that fussed about. I totally get
how a simple drummer with no flashiness can be great, Brad Wilk comes to
mind. Totally rock solid. But she's not even competent in my opinion.

When I was a kid, there was this kid in my high school named Bill Jarema. He
considered himself a drummer, though no one ever heard him play or saw his
kit or anything. He used to come to school with his fingers all taped up
like Stewart Copeland and such. He'd pontificate a great lengths about how
the drummer for Elton John's band (or insert incidental random rock
drummer's name here) was a shit drummer. It wasn't until my friend Kathleen
-- who didn't give a good honest crap about music one way or the other --
just shut him down.

"Bill," she calmly asserted, "has it ever occurred to you that Elton John's
drummer might just be doing what he's required to do? Maybe Elton doesn't
*let* him show off his chops."

In the instance of the White Stripes, by no means am I suggesting that Neil
Peart should be losing sleep, but Meg provides the foundation for Jack to
carry the weight of the band (which, to my mind, he handily does). Moreover,
at no point did the White Stripes ever compare themselves to Emerson Lake &
Palmer. I don't think they *CARE* that Meg isn't a virtuoso, but she capably
fills the requirement.

I saw them three times without a complaint.

And as far as whether Meg is hot or not, to each their own.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I think White Stripes are
over-rated. Not bad, in fact quite good at times. But over-rated. Meg is
god-awful on drums, the link posted to disprove that did nothing at all for
me. Jack sounded fine, she just has NO TALENT and can't even keep a beat. As
far as being hot - she's not. And If you're gonna listen to music for that,
you might as well go whole hog and listen to the Pussycat Dolls J

I saw them back in 2007 or something and she couldn't come close to keeping
a beat. Probably the most shitbox drummer I've ever seen.

For my money, Meg does quite alright for herself .... and looks damn good
doing it.

I think the reason I never bothered with THE ARGUMENT was because END HITS
was kinda a snore.

But let's get started on my list again, please. Hell, someone recently cited
AFI -- that's just as bad (if not worse, in my book) than My Chemical
Colostomy Bag.

Meanwhile, I have to say that I'm entirely loving the new Whie Stripes live
album.

_End Hits_ and _Steady Diet_ were Fugazi's weakest LPs. I think their
strongest LP was _In on the Killtaker_, followed by _Repeater_ followed by
_The Argument, followed by _Red Medicine_. "13 Songs" is a collection of
two EPs. If you want to call it, however, an "LP," then I'd place it in 2nd
place behind _In on the Killtaker_. Not every music lover would agree with
this. Certainly not every Fugazi fan would.

Compared to crap like The Vines and Be Your Own Pet and also (sorry) but a
lot of the stuff, on for ex., Alex's Top 50 list, _The Argument_ is, IMHO,
pretty damn great. It isn't someting I chose because it, hey, it's Fugazi,
so, well, gotta give 'em props, regardless of their output. Because I
honestly think their _End Hits_ LP from 1998 sucks.

I said this before and I'll say it again. The Arguement: A good album. Good,
not great. Probably their weakest and definitely not worthy of a Top 50 that
comprises an entire decade. A glaring omission? Only if they are being
included simply because they put out any album at all, rather than an
awesome album.
