[kj] (OT) Singing rule Britannia

1923, 1 USD = 4.2 TRILLION Mark (4.2 rentemark, the rentemark being one
trillion papiermark). It was cheaper to burn it than to use it to buy
firewood.

I'm not belittling the tough econonmic conditions in the UK at the moment,
but comparisons to 1920s germany are exaggerated, esp in terms of standard
of living.

Just a question of scale I suppose. Germany post WWI was demolished and
had no goods to sell, they could barely feed themselves, and they were
saddled with onerous reparations under the Treaty of Versailles. What
really ranked was being forced to admit that WWI was their fault.
