Aha - I'm sure there's a snipe at Avery on one of the live tracks on
Kettle Whistle.

You're spot-on about Avery being part of the important line-up, I'm
just being stroppy 'cos I want to see said line-up in the UK!!! I
mean, if they have so much to be pissed at EACH OTHER for, when Avery
digs his heels in, it's as if it's all about Evil Perry, which it ain't.

I don't know what Avery's problem is - is he Mr Sulky "I can never forgive 
Perry for being such a wreckhead" or "Drugs are evil, mmmkay"? If so, fuck 
off & get another bass player. I don't think he's THAT important!

Regarding Avery's importance in the band, having seen every incarnation of 
Janes, often multiple times, Eric is very key to the unique chemistry and 
sound of the band, especially in the studio.  All those distinctive bass 
lines that drive such songs as Three Days, Mountain Song, Whores etc came 
from him.  If ever a band would be described as four equally important and 
distinct parts, Jane's is probably it. On stage, with the exception of Flea 
from The Red Hot Chili Peppers in '97, the other replacement bass players 
they've used have been mediocre at best.  The last guy they used in '02 - 
'03, Chris Cheney was a lifeless shoe-gazer on stage.

Janes without Eric = "Strays" which I think is a decent "rawk" album but 
completely lacks the atmosphere and unique vibe their earlier stuff with 
Eric had.

And yeah, the publishing/money distribution issues was a big reason why Eric 
originally left the band, actually more of a reason why he didn't rejoin in 
'97, but there's also other stuff as well. Drugs of course, but also around 
1989 - '90, Eric supposedly hit on Perry's girlfriend Casey while drunk at a 
party which totally soured the relationship between the two men.  During the 
1090 tour, Perry would often give a long speech about "stealing" your best 
friends girlfriend before the band played "Been Caught Stealing" as a 
not-so-subtle jab at Eric.
