[kj] OT: Tender, moving YouTube video

You're penalised if you stick to the minimum payments on a lot of loans, esp
credit cards. They are a scam. When I worked at a bank in New Zealand, I
supported their call centre, amongst other buildings. I saw their bonus
points scheme - they are rewarded more for selling credit cards to people
than for setting up new savings accounts. And if you follow the minimum
payments on credit cards, they generally take YEARS to pay off. They have
been criticised by the Commerce Commission for this in NZ. They have also
been criticised for charging a huge premium in interest rates (above 20%)
for debt that is now, alike most places in the western world, GOVERNMENT
BACKED.

There's no extra risk to the banks in that debt, over and above the risk in
your mortgage or personal loan debt. But you continue to pay 21% or
whatever.ugh.

I'll tell you one thing that pisses the fuck outa me.
All the banks get their massive bailouts. And I get letters in the mail now
telling me
that they are upping my APR. (While they fucking hound me on the phone
trying to sell
me "credit protection". I swear.... They are worse than telemarketers!)

I've NEVER had a late or missed payment and don't stick to the "minimum due"
amount.
COCKSUCKERS!

If that ain't something to be pissed about, I don't know what is! :)

Good post Exo. I do think many people are pissed about the banks especially
getting $700 billion (isn't that figure right?) in tax-funded bailout cash.
Many are also pissed that Obama appointed some of these same culprits of the
financial crisis in his cabinet. Still, it seemed that most of yesterday's
all-of-a-sudden protesters were right wingers (they interviewed a woman on
my local news who led the ballot question that tried to end income tax in
Massachusetts--that would have wiped out tons of jobs, closed even more
schools, etc)

Well, other than the dedicated protesters most ppl. tend to avoid that stuff
as they have many other
important things to do as well. It just means that there are groups of
individuals that got fed up and
decided to voice their opinions. However what these individuals are doing
are going counter to everything
that has been promoted by the media and they don't like it. Hence, the
mockery and marginalization of it.

If you looked at the signs and listened to what people complained, it was
not all about taxes. It has to
do with the massive spending that the gov't is planning. It simply can not
be covered without raising
taxes on everyone. Even if the gov't were to triple the tax on the
wealthiest is would fall far short.
There were actually quite a few republicans that tried to show up and the
rallies and got boo'd off
as well.

Have a great weekend Greg!

SADE! Word count please!
(BTW, do quotes count as the overall wordcount or not?)

One thing about the "2 sides protesting" argument, Exorcist. The anti-war
people have been doing that stuff for years, and in some cases decades
(going back to Vietnam). I don't blame for some of that crowd being a little
suspicious when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, groups (not too large from
what I could tell, smaller than most earlier anti-war demos) materialize
protesting "taxes" (which of course Obomb-'em has lowered for most), and get
tons of media coverage...

I was merely quoting your words. Maybe I put to much emphasis on words that

people say and should've thought "maybe he means protest or demonstrate"?

I did, but then wondered why the choice word of riot came up. I guess that
sometimes

I'm just not so quick on the button. You'll have to forgive me.

I'll be responding to the astro-turfing in a bit.

It is amazing, however, that when one side protests is all for valid
reasons. When they other side protests

it's all because they are a bunch of losers.

Will write more later (though I promise not to turn this into another 800
response email thread)

(Twisted the fuck outa my ankle and gotta ice it down right now. And on the
first NICE day of 2009!)

Cheers Oli!

Who said there were tea party "riots"???

I never did. I just pointed out the truth, which is that they are
'astro-turf' (fake grass roots), corporate directed anti-Obama events
designed to give vent to sore losers from the 2008 POTUS election.

As far as the teabagging fests, which looked like the worst Sarah Palin
rallies from last year, this man is my hero:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkOwsIIIe5I

He 'infiltrated' a tea party and actally said something that was true. He's
got big bals for doing that, because most of the people at them are nuts.
Accordingly, he gets booed.
