[kj] OT: Tender, moving YouTube video

Let's see...

Rendition:
http://www.latimes.com/news/la-na-rendition1-2009feb01,0,7548176,full.story
---snip---
Under executive orders issued by Obama recently,
the CIA still has authority to carry out what are
known as renditions, secret abductions and
transfers of prisoners to countries that cooperate with the United States.
---snip---

Wire Tapping: (Also take into account the outrage when Bush started this)
http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2009/04/obama-doj-worse-than-bush
---snip---
It's an especially disappointing argument to hear
from the Obama Administration. As a candidate,
Senator Obama lamented that the Bush
Administration "invoked a legal tool known as the
'state secrets' privilege more than any other
previous administration to get cases thrown out
of civil court." He was right then, and we're
dismayed that he and his team seem to have forgotten.

Sad as that is, it's the Department Of Justice's
(read my comment below about the Justice Dept.
and who it's being filled with) second argument
that is the most pernicious. The DOJ claims that
the U.S. Government is completely immune from
litigation for illegal spying — that the
Government can never be sued for surveillance
that violates federal privacy statutes.
---snip---

Guantanamo? Nahhh. We got Bagram!:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/13/opinion/13mon1.html?ref=opinion
---snip---
The Obama administration is basking in praise for
its welcome commitment to shut down the American
detention center at Guantánamo Bay. But it is
acting far less nobly when it comes to prisoners
held at a larger, more secretive military
detention facility at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
---snip---
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/04/16/liberals-angered-obamas-opposition-judicial-review-bagram-detainees/
---snip---
In an editorial this week, The New York Times
claimed Bagram is "the next Guantanamo" and
accused the Obama administration of recycling
"extravagant claims of executive power."

That's because the Obama White House has sided
with the Bush administration in its belief that
the Bagram detainees, who are in a war zone, have
no right to a court review despite a ruling last
year by the Supreme Court granting Guantanamo detainees those rights.

The Justice Department argues that Bagram is
different from Guantanamo because it is in an
overseas war zone and the prisoners there are
being held as part of an ongoing military action.
The government argues that releasing enemy
combatants into the Afghan war zone, or even
diverting U.S. personnel there to consider their
legal cases, could threaten security.

Now, if you look at the arguments that RIAA
lawyers put forth in court, trust me, there is NO privacy.
Not to mention many other arguments that I won't
list now as this one is enough.

Taxes:
Bette, Considering the amount of unsustainable
spending that the Obama administration is planning, it
is just about impossible that it can be done with
raising taxes all over the place. This 95% tax cut is gonna
be VERY short lived.

Tea Party Riot:
Oliver, there were no riots, it was actually
quite peaceful. No burning objects thrown at people, no breaking windows
no flipping cars. I'd call that a protest, not a
riot. It seems that they behaved far better than most of the "other" protests
I've seen over the past decade (or more).

Cheers,
Me
