I have it myself -ripped out of a copy at Smiths in Brighton if I remember correctly (you're right, Vox was crap!) - but it is here http://www.anirrationaldomain.net/articles/1992-1996/vox94.html on the Irrational Domain site which has an excellent library of articles and photos. More of your work is there, too, including http://www.anirrationaldomain.net/articles/1983-1986/sounds221186.html

One of Mat's from the Extremities era:- http://www.anirrationaldomain.net/articles/1987-1991/mm151290.html

Andy Peart wrote an ecstatic review in Sounds of the Astoria gig in '91, "At this moment in time there isn't a band on the planet capable of getting anywhere near the unadulterated power and intensity Killing Joke create live. Their time has come and someone somewhere is laughing."

This made me smile from Mick Sinclair in Sounds in July '83:- "Witnessing their set in Glasgow, it struck me suddenly that Geordie is the Albert Speer to Jaz’s Hitler – those ringing guitar lines an epic classicism of a setting for the singer’s oration. A wildly impressive, towering vision of power and presence. But the oration is short of being dictatorial. Unless, of course, you want to be led ...."

Wow, I'd like to see that... was it on the web or you have it yourself? Can't remember what lies I wrote ;-)Vox and Select went the way of all mediocre music publications - everypublisher was jumping on the bandwagon trying to do the monthly thingand with Q and Mojo there were simply too many. Select wasn't bad,I still think, but Vox was a bit crap and always destined to fail.Mat Smith was a good mate of mine for some time - we went to manyKJ gigs together back in the day - driving up to Leicester on theFiredances tour being a memorable night out! - we eventuallywent our own ways, but I saw him at the 2003 KJ gigs and he sentme an email when Raven died. We actually met at journo college purelybecause of KJ - I was wearing a What's THIS For! t-shirt sat in thecanteen one day and he spotted a fellow weirdo and came overand we started talking about how KJ scared the shit out of us. Dave Simpson reviews music for the Guardian now, Andy Peart - no idea.Had liver and onions for tea t'other day :)N

Hey Neil, I've just found your review of Pandemonium from Vox magazine in '94! Vox and Select - whatever happened to them!? Do you know "Black" Mat Smith, Dave Simpson and Andy Peart? They were other journos who went against the grain and wrote good things about KJ (and had phobias about liver and/or maggots?)

Or maybe just that they actually played all of the 21 or 22 songs that were on the 2nd night set-list ... unlike in Milan !!!

When Youth says "we finally got the running order of the second set right"...erm, aren't they just playing Pandemonium from beginning to end and thensome singles? Does that take a lot of working out? ;-)Or am I missing something?N
