Less than KJ's known potential? yes, oh yes...**

"Yes, but.." I was just recognizing the admittedly flawed-some-say-'shitty' album
to still attract new listeners who know quality when they hear it, even when it's
"flawed-though-some-say-'shitty'".  Credit that new listener a beer and let's welcome
him aboard.

**I'm only asking about the level of HATE, which is unusual even for this forum.
For all the blood-curdling going on, you'd think Sarah Palin ran off with the presale
orders for Gems Of Power, thereby hurting Obama's poll standing. Now that debacle - Gems Of Power - IS worth spitting fire at, and i didn't even order one.

"why all the HATE against HFTBOH?"

I think you might have answered your own question with that 2 paragraph disclaimer below. When you have to make THAT many excuses and concessions for an album.....what you're making excuses and concessions for is a SHITTY album.

Another indication that you're talking about a shitty album is when the phrase "It's better than most of the stuff that's out there" comes into play. I remember some of my friends saying that about "Shot" by Jesus Lizard (their fantabulous major label debut).

I'd take:
Universe B
Afterburner
plus:
Hosannas From The Basement Of Hell
Majestic
Walking With Gods
Drug
Mass
Lightbringer

And I'd set a deliberate limit of 3:00-3:30min. per song MAXimum,
and if Jaz really believes in the length and development of the long songs
then let him release a separate cd of remixes and leave the main cd
as is [as above].
"Hosannas..." is still better than lotsa most stuff out there now. That's
a good thing.. right? If you're someone who's been either following KJ for
a good while now or much more prefer-&-reference their earlier work then,
yeah, "Hosannas..." might not be as convincing because that earlier stuff
was good. undeniably, but, why all the HATE against HFTBOH? That's
a lot of hate out there. it seems.
Jaz [cuz i know it's gotta be him!] has been making songs way too damn
long from the very beginning, which is what kept me from liking "Empire Song"
and "Fire Dances[cd]" sooner.

Hosannas is Killing Joke's "St. Anger". It's just that simple.

Competition is a barbaric, insensitive ritual that reeks of social Darwinism.
We cannot allow the fittest to survive on our pages. Your loss is someone
else's gain, and your gain is someone else's loss. Therefore, losers contribute
to the society and winners take away from it. Being a winner is unethical, while
a society of losers is happy and striving as a collective. In the spirit of diversity,
inclusiveness, and collectivism our contests shall have no winners.
Everyone is declared a loser, which in our book means an ethical team player. _______________________________________________
