Over the years I've noticed that American sound guys opt for a more predominant mid-range, guitar happy set up. The Brits and Euros are more Basscadet, but often with a more balanced sound..
I imagine the boys are walking the HOB engineer thru this right now, or very soon....there will be much profanity..

I gotta say, when they kicked off with The Hum on Saturday I didn't knowwhat song it was Geordie had started to play, because I couldn't recognisethat opening riff. Just a distorted buzzy mess. I could hear clear drums, bass,keyboards and then a thrashy sound in the background... it's a real shame!It went up and down during the gig but I do think it is becoming increasinglyrare at a KJ gig to hear the guitar in any meaningful way. I agree - the weakestlink for sure.N

The last two albums combined with the new tunes does make the string of 'chug chug shout' much too long. Thankfully the kj records of 21st century haven't seen much play on the current tour, for If it weren't for their back catalog, attending a kj show would be pointless for me. As well, Geordie's guitar tone and creativity seems become less interesting with every passing little buzzy 1/4th note.
 
And something I thought I would never imagine uttering, that geordie's sound is the weakest link in this band currently. Given his tone is so anemic and the volume & punch of his instrument has been completely emasculated, it is essential that BPF and youth are back with a rejuvenated jaz. 
 

What ever happened to that gigantic open warm carillon bell harp sound that threatened the village heretics from atop valley's mount?!  
 
Judging from the last two records and video of the current tour, The guitar sound is like andretti in a rusty ford pinto that needs a tune up!

I must admit I was quite disappointed when I heard it - like Blobbert said it sounded pretty much the same as Lighbringer.

Still, lets hear what it sounds like when it's done properly.

 

I am really hoping for something a bit different this time.

What I used to love was the fact no 2 recordings sounded the same - you never knew what you were going to get.

Recently it's all seems a bit 'lazy' [chugga-chug-shout] - the creativity & hunger to do something different seems to have gone.

C'mon KJ - throw us a curved ball!

Now BPF & Youth are back (for however long that may be) I'd love them to take their time & come up with - for want of a better expression - their Sgt Peppers.

 

A girl can dream can't she...?
