>I think Geordie started to tune down around Firedances. But I'm not

sure.

Quote from a 1994 interview:

Part of the secret of Killing Joke's cavernous sound is Geordie's simple
but unusual choice of alternative tuning.

"Yeah, I've never used that much of a standard tuning anyway. There's
something wild about that tuning, but it's been around for centuries.

"I think the first album was regular tuning, but I found out after the
second album that I had been tuned a semitone down like Hendrix. Anyway,
one day at rehearsal I took the guitar out of the case and started
playing with the bottom E tuned down to D, but we thought it sounded
really great and so I've used it ever since - money for old rope."

Cliff would be the best to answer since he actually touched it (the
guitar that is).

>From what I remember he uses a heavier gauge because he tunes down.

Maybe to D and then the top D even lower. So in that case it is better
to have thicker strings so you don't have to much flop.

I think Geordie started to tune down around Firedances. But I'm not
sure.

Not sure. I read something similar too. I use a 10 on the high e with
heavy bottoms. Still experimenting around with the strings setup since
I've only had it a short time. 12's would be a bit much for me I think!

Btw, does Geordie use a string set starting at .012(the "little" E)?
That is supposed to add a lot to his sound (I think someone posted here
a long time ago) yeah?

Hah, That's me, although with the Epiphone version. (along with fellow
gatherer singing Mr. Aleph) from our first show as the sisters tribute
band The Reptile House. I have to say the workmanship is very very close
to the gibson one. I played a gibson one at guitar center and other than
the gibson not having the bigsby, it, extremely close in quality (minus
about $2000)

Cheers

Michael

Thanks for the info, I really thought it was one, and in the unlikeliest
of hands, too.

Though I thought i'd read somewhere that there are (or, were) sunburst
es295s

along with all-black versions (Johnny Marr, i think?).

G001-129090

I'd hazard a guess at a Guild . . they have/had tailpieces that look a
lot like that

Maybe one of these?

The other "not 295" giveaway is the fact it is sunburst

No - definitely not Gibson. Plus it's got humbuckers rather than p90's.
Could be a Hagstrom...the modern one's have the same tailpiece.

I bet Marc can give you the exact seriel number before the days out!

Does that look like a Gibson es295 guitar

(at right, with Strawberry Switchblade)?

I'm going by the tailpiece; I can't make out how thick the body is.
