Good on them for using the opportunity of the Olympics to highlight the
issue. And good on those athletes who boycott it, that’s an extremely tough
call for people who have devoted so much to their passion.

Scarey stuff. I was in Lhasa a few months ago. You could feel the tension
'in the air' at the time. The Tibetains will never be content with the
'occupation' of their country by the Chinese authorities and everyone knows
they would do the same to Taiwan if the thought they would get away with it!
All news/media within China is carefully controlled so the average Chinese
citizen is only going to get the angle fed to them by the State (seeing as
most Chinese don't even know about the student uprising in Tiananmen Square;
so tight is the control)

Has anyone recently seen the news footage on Tibet?

Is it just me or is China** trying to make the Tibetans and their monks
look

hideous as responsible for all the fires, looting and mayhem happening over

there right now.

**the one with The Wall

1) China blacked out the transmission and exportation of all news and

evidence (to the best of their power),

2) when the stuff does make it out, it happens towards thurs.night/friday

just in time for the weekend because no one watches news on the

weekend, so China won't be seen 'so bad, by so many, over so much...'

3) what does make it out makes it look like the Tibetans are just animals

on a rampage, and the official Chinese comments about it have the tone

of, "oh poor us...you see, you see World, those reckless animals...."

[cue pics of cars on fire, of a monk kicking a storefront, etc.]

Boycott China. Boycott the Olympics.

Take a small hit on cancelling your olympic tour packages to china and

spend the rest of your money at home supporting local merchants and jobs.

Didn't mean to make this a political rant; was just curious to see if

others saw different, better news coverage than what i've seen. (mine was

from BBC World on Tv).
