Fuck, they let patients teach?! I don't know what's worse: that, or
that you appreciate it.....
..How's the island coming along?
You can make money on the Island by turning it into an offshore banking
and tax-evasion haven. The fees are sweet and can pay for the patient teachers
to educate the young.

One man's money-laundering is another man's tax dry-cleaning...

People, even kids, know when they are being patronised. Was reading an
article about a study that showed that kids who are regularly lauded for
'effort' and 'trying hard', all that shit, well basically it
has a
negative effect. Kids KNOW that performance and achievement is important,
all that smiley glad-hands treatment, giving kids certificates for turning
up to school twice in a row on time or not drooling over themselves
today...it's crap, and we're gonna end up breeding a population of
hapless, entitled cretins.

I suppose often it's got the right intentions behind it, but we all know
the saying about the road to hell. Or was that an AC/DC song...?

As a bit of a slow learner and awkward kid at school, what I actually
appreciated was some one-on-on with a patient teacher who took the time to
go through what I was having difficulty with, in a way tailored to how I
learned, away from the spotlight of other kids who were already good at
it. My reward was the achievement, then the good press from the teacher or
family or peers was genuine.
