[kj] (OT) Natural disasters

PS: Pascal is your sister over with the performers...? If so in what role?

Wellington is my home town, very fond of it. There's this weird false
dichotomy where people seem to like Auckland or Wellington and not like the
other one...sure you guys have that where you come from too. It's a bit
stupid, I like them both.

Hey brendan are u near wellington?
My sista is over there with this;
http://www.nzfestival.nzpost.co.nz/theatre/cirque-ici

below is review to get the taste buds flowing, things like 'throaty
hiss-like snarl' might get you in appetite seeing as you r here for kj:

Johann Le Guillerm is the director, sorcerer, ringmaster and designer of
Cirque Ici and a wonder he truly is. Looking like a dead ringer of Iggy Pop
with his long stringy braids and attenuated, muscular body, he moves with a
dancer's grace and the controlled dynamism of an acrobat. His face is
impassive and the only sound he utters is a throaty hiss-like snarl. But
from the moment he enters, prowling the stage in his long appliquéd coat and
surreal, reptilian shoes and carrying a vicious looking whip, he both
fascinates and repels, and for the next 100 minutes we are mesmerized.
The audience is almost unnecessary - there is scarce interaction. It felt a
little like watching a scientist in his laboratory, or an alchemist in his
cave. But mischievious, clever humour is to be had a-plenty.
As he overpowers carpet squares and metal wash tubs, and bends steel to his
will, he turns the image of the macho, animal controlling ringmaster on its
head and tramples it into the dust of history, where it belongs.
The show starts slowly, but builds magnificently, until the last two set
pieces, with the books and the planks of wood take your breath away, and you
are a child again marvelling at the wonder of it all.
But beneath the skill and the sleight of hand, the child-like audacity, the
originality and the invention, there is a serious sub-text of stoicism in
the face of adversity; of humankind's ability to overcome obstacles and
endure, and the desire for simplification in these times of extreme and
dangerous technology.
See this extraordinary show. Guillerm is a true original. But take a
cushion.
Cirque Ici -Secret. Odlins Plaza. Till 16 March.
