[kj] OT: Boycotting the UAE is wrong

An invasion: not at all; regime change: even less.

And by the way, you fail to distinguish between drug trafficking and incidental presence of drugs on a person while travelling. That is gravely, if unwittingly, wrong and dangerous. It exposes innocent persons to being held and processed for crimes they didn't commit.

It seems like a ploy to make a point on my part, but i'll explain:
recently i read that currently, a large majority of (mainly paper) currency - cash - can be positively tested for traces of one or more drugs, and that YOU or I will be in "possession" and tainted (complicity?) by this cash - and more than once.
Is one then guilty of drug traffiking, or corruption of society, or whatever else? Given how often cash circulates, especially in hi-density urban centers, how many people should we find guilty of drug trafficking because coke residue was all over their $20 bill they received as change at the airport gift shop?

And here's the really fun part: where these discoveries are more likely to be made are in the most highly tense of urban settings: airports. And train centers, and other assorted transportation centers or international points of entry, potentially making worse any possible overreactions by local authorities, given the current mood/s on the planet.
That could be you, or me, or someone we care about.

What happened in the UAE seems on the surface to be a stupid, imbecillic political and tabloid-style publicity stunt to somehow benefit the UAE or allies, all the while using innocent people as human pawns in the whole fucking process.
THERE'S your crime: in "immoblizing"[-as opposed to mobilising aka trafficking (in this example, taking of hostage)] another person from their own life and world, not some weed on a shoe.
C'mon. Weed, on a shoe?

I think your whole statement, tho' proper in a diff' context, is totally missapplied here as a response.
If i read correctly the original post, it was about weed stuck to the bottom of a guy's shoe (singular, to boot!) and poppy seeds from a bagel or a roll on another guy - and people's lives are going to shattered and considerably stunted for it. It doesn't seem at all like some "Midnight Express" [the movie] stunt by any means (as it was described).

To take that and stretch it into intercultural repressive actions is.. i don't even get WHY do that in the first place.

I say we all stick to the Astroglide sanctions against purchasing any further Petrol.Jelly, give that 6 months with a UN General Assembly recognition, and we review then.

Boycotting the U.A.E. is just as extreme and arrogant as the Islamic extremists who chastise the West for allowing Western Women to drive cars . They have no right to dictate to us about how we live our lives, just as we have no right to dictate to them about how they should live there lives.
Adulterers got stoned to death in Iran , rape victims get prosecuted in Saudi and people with mental problems are forced into being suicide bombers in Iraq , yet you seem to feel that the right to take drugs is more important than these issues .
The taking of drugs is illegal in these Countries and the punishment is severe and when you visit these Countries you should respect these laws . It doesn't mater what the amount is that you possess , simply having any amount shows that you are a user of drugs and that is enough to warrant punishment .
He only had a small amount , but he was drug trafficking all the same and in some Counties this carries the death sentence .
Look at your own society and see what problems drugs have caused : Early deaths, mental problems and ravaged bodies amonst other things and then ask yourself why you feel that other Counties that dont have these problems should allow the drug culture to creep in.
Drug usage isn't acceptable in other Counties or Cultures , you have no right to influence other cultures into accepting Western decadent ways
