And then there's plain old coincidence.  Yesterday my manager told me that he got a parking ticket for £30 at the weekend, he said later that same day he went swimming and found £30 floating in the pool.

I tend to agree with that...a 5% hit ratio means that you end up with a following of 5% of the people you spin your magick to (more like 10% because some people fall for anything if you package it the right way), meaning you basically have to put it out there a lot to get a core of followers...but it's a number game. If you manage to fluke a 'hit' first time with someone, the phenomenon of 'peak experience' in psychology means you've got a good chance of having a believer for a long, long time.

 

Same with people who say they can predict sports outcomes better than others, all they have to do is fluke enough correct picks at the right time and they have x % of people convinced.

 

It's just numbers.

I've never seen anything myself, so unless I do I just can't believe it.  Maybe spiritualists get lucky now and again; probability and all that.  (Did anyone see Derren Brown at the bookies on TV the other night?)

 

I saw Derren Brown (him again) doing a John Edwards/Colin Fry type psychic thing, and he got the "channeling" spot on but admitted it was nothing to do with spirits, just his skills at reading people.

 

I'm also convinced that if the spirits could contact us, then my grandparents would have already done so.  Because they could see how much I miss them.

 

Charlatans or not, a lot of people (my other half included) get comfort from thinking they can/could contact their loved ones, or will see them again in the after-life.  Which kind of makes me wish I did believe in it.

 

I probably sound really flippant, I don't mean to.

Well, I don't know about that.

I have never hidden the fact that I have had experiences with the spirit world and others in my family too.
My Aunt has had a number of experiences and just last weekend my sister inlaw went to the spritiulaist church where she knew no-one.

Yet the medium singled her out and gave her a message from an old family friend. He even named and described her but had absolutley no knowledeg of my sister in law and our family.

There are alot of charlatans I agree, but I am totally convinced that there are people who can channel it.
