EW! Fuck I was eating a pear when I clicked on that (straight after waking
up from a mildly disturbing dream where I was suspended on a collapsible
ladder above a Tool concert with a flashlight, the music was awful and I was
trying to make my way down the ladder with some difficulty...)

Now I have vertigo, mild nausea, fatigue and disorientation all rolled into
one (yes I know explains a lot), I've just woken up at 19:00 to start my
weird night-shift existence. It's gonna be a weird 'day'.

And JIMMY CARTER?! What parallel universe have I woken up in?

Horrifying parasitic illness reaches all-time low

ATLANTA - Cases of Guinea worm disease - a horrifying infection that 
culminates in worms coming out of a victim's skin - have reached an 
all-time low worldwide, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter announced Friday.

Guinea worm occurs when people drink water contaminated with worm 
larvae. Over a year, one or more of the larvae can grow to the size of a 
3-foot-long spaghetti noodle. Then they very slowly emerge through the 
skin, often causing searing, debilitating pain for months. The disease 
is usually not fatal.

There is no vaccine or medicine for the parasite. Infection is prevented 
by filtering water and educating people how to avoid the disease.
