Sorry I’ve already claimed Pandemonium for the God of Metal. Trance? Pfagh!

Good q'estion. Hai! Taking it further, how about

not only "linked" but even "fused"?

I once listened to 2 island ska compilations for about 3 days straight,

then went back to my Specials/Oingo Boingo/LosFabulososCadillacs cds

and, espesh w/theSpecials, I was then really able to hear the big difference

punk had on Ska. I mean, island ska is great and in a blissful way but to
rouse

the Rabble.... i think da' brit-ska really kicks. (orwhateverit'scalled..)

So..

can it also be said that Postpunk + Trance = "Pandemonium"(k.j. cd) ?

Motown/R&B + exprmntl.electronic = *K*R*A*F*T*W*E*R*K* ?

Motown+protoTechno = House.... ?

Motown+New Wave = early Ministry... ?

Motown +rock(or,punk?) = early HYPERLINK
"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LIzG0MUv3g"The Jam and HYPERLINK
"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91okJjULSQI"JoBoxers (live)?

Motown+anything else = >good

Yea or nay... aye or nye..?

I was listening to Barrington Levy the other day thinking what drew me into
this sort of stuff in the first place.

I think part of it was that at all the late 70s punk gigs, like those you
mention, you could almost guarantee the music played before the bands came
on was reggea.

Mentally I'm probably half expecting The Clash to come on stage when the
next song finishes.

Have two genres of music be so closely linked?

Brian.

early 80s US harcore punk band Bad Brains, who were actually Rastafarians
and did roots reggae on each album (they put out
a reunion cd a few months ago and it's very good)...

Jeezus, I had NO idea old-school punkers n' similar types tended toward
reggae.

I thought it was a combo of tastes only quirks like me and my siblings had,
like when

I listen to Judas Priest and Konono No.1(heavy african) in the same 10
minute time

span. Of course no one else is in the car then....

Hey now!
My point was that it is just as silly to label The Matt Stagger Band
"Reggae" as it was for the person who wrote the brief bio of KJ to label
them "quasi-metal". But the Matt Stagger band is always called that because
it is easy. An easy label in an instant gratification world.

Obviously, both bands defy their label....because they are complex, like
every band/person/cat/hamster is..........seems Alex got the point, and
yeah, I am aware he is a fine journalist with a blog, where I read the BPF
interview. Also liked his story about the rest of the band that he posted
here. That kind of stuff would have happened to me. Certainly wasn't
comin' at him with daggers, quite the opposite....despite his lack of love
for Patti ;0

And I dig Reggae old skool style.......Burning Spear at the Magic Stick will
always be one of my favorite concerts ever!

Maybe it isn't, Mel - just got a feeling it was. He could cover up his
give-aways quite easily.

Anyway, of course we've all heard that Jaz & BPF were in the Matt Stagger
band. As for wheter there's any dubby reggae-ness going on in early Joke,
well, they were well into the whole PiL thing, the company, etc & if Turn To
Red isn't played dub-style, I don't know what is !!!

What is wrong with reggae anyway??? Didn't punks love it back in the day? I
fucking love 70's reggae!!!

Oh, Alex, you are so silly. Reggae is the genre they are always classified
under (The Matt Stagger Band I am referring to).....
Don't get your panties in a bunch ;0 I didn't say Jaz was doing covers of
"One Love" with BPF.

To anyone interested in the Matt Stagger Band, it is easy to find on the
web.....the first hit had this intro:

"Heavy and slow, HYPERLINK
"http://music.aol.com/artistredirect.adp?artist_id=4677" \nKilling Joke (at
least early in their career) was a quasi-metal band dancing to a tune of
doom and gloom. They eventually became less heavy and more arty (the latter
seems almost impossible) -- more danceable even -- but early on they made
some urgent slabs of molten dynamite that oozed with the power of thick
guitars, thudding drums, and over-the-top singing. The origins of HYPERLINK
"http://music.aol.com/artistredirect.adp?artist_id=4677" \nKilling Joke lie
in the Matt Stagger Band."

NOW......was KJ a "quasi-metal band" when they started? No.

But people love to play with words.....

RASTAFARI!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Matt Stagger Band -- I'm not sure I'd call them a proper "reggae" band,
from what I've heard about them.

Wow, that's the first I hear of this. What reggae band was this?

So I guess that means nothing is "new and fresh". However, today's current
environment encourages homogenization, which is a completely different
animal, IMHO. But everything is

CHANGE!!!!!!!

Funny how, when a 'new' band is mentioned, they're related to one from the
past...
