Whata gig !!!

What an evening.
What a sound
What a gig
What a bind..
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

W I R E !!!

Wire are back. Well, since 2003's "Sent" they are.... Not that they
were ever really "away". There was also inbetween DOME and WIR.. and
so on but...

For the first since quite some time WIRE are touring again !
And I went to yesterdays gig in "TSTUK" in Leuven (Belgium). Oh boy!
What an energy, what a show...

Their adagio aka song "Practice Makes Perfect" surely counts ! They
ar still on a high ! What a live performance.... Wire blows all them
young would be bands of nowadays, trying to sound like, but not
"having it" away. That's for sure.

Colin Newman: "Hi, we're Wire". And what would follow was one and a
half hour of Wire-gems. The Wire train was rolling and sounded great:
Avant-Garde-Art-Punrock-greatness in overdrive !
The mainset was mainly build on the to be released new album "Object
47", and those songs sound great, so I can't wait to get my hands on
that new album (July) and also songs from 2003"s "Sent", containing
one of the evenings absolute highlights: "COMET" !

Further on the set, and mainly in the encores, the band returned 3
times, we got really old Wire-gems such as "1.2.X.U" ( and of cours
yours truly singing along "I saw You in A mag Kissing A Man") but
also "Three Girl Rhumba" (so that's where Elastica nicked their
riffs !!!) and "Too late". And yes: "Reuters" !!

But - and maybe not an obvious choice - also "The Boling Boy" from
1988's "A Bell is A Cup Untill it is Struck" was amongst those songs,
and as far as I'm concerned, amongst the absolute highlights of the
evening ! Although the songs was played much faster and rawer then on
in it's album-version, it was recognised at the first note, and also
appeared to be a great crowdpleaser...

During the evening one of the fans kept on shouting "Mr. Suit!",
whilst Newman kept on answering "We don't do requests"! And.. Well
there was no need to, as the band's own choices for their setlist
where pretty good. So why complain? Of course, I would have liked to
hear more of "my" favourites, such as "I should have known better",
"40 Versions", "Strange" and "The Art Of Stopping" but one can have
it al, can one?

This was a great evening. With WIRE sounding fresher and intense then
ever......
Wire anno 2008 is just bloody awesome.

After a couple more gigs in Belgium and Holland they'll return to the
UK to do series of shows there so....
Check them out !!
