[kj] OT: Jane's WAS: New October File vid

Ted (Alex, TB, Javier...), Just Admit It.....

....there is a seed of truth to be found in the dumb, mostly off-base (but not outright false or it wouldn't be funny) joke I made about JA/LA Glam Metal with dreads. Listen to Ocean Size and Had a Dad and own up to what you KNOW in your heart to be true but are just too embarassed to come to terms with! ;)

PS - Remember Love On Ice? It was like on one end you've got Jane's Addiction. On the other (though not very far away), you've got Faster Pussycat. In the middle sat Love On Ice.

Jane's Addiction was (and still is) one of my favorite bands, that mix of very talented musicians along with Perry Farrell's lyrics was extraordinary, the man is really talented; i know there are some very "cheesee-ones" and other pretty "smoked" lyrics, but there are also a lot of very smart-powerful moments in Jane's Addiction lyrics. Not to talk about the musical energy they projected. I even like Porno For Pyros a very lot and also got Farrell's solo album which was good to me. He spreads a very authentic kind of energy in every project he creates/involves, and because of that I understand he stands in that position of love-him or hate-him, with almost no middle range. But still you may recognize the man is a pretty good lyric writer, he aproaches to a lot of very common social issues in a very creative way.

On the other hand "Strays" was not exciting, Navarro's band called Panic Channel is lame, and Satellite Party isn't very exciting either... but there were some awesome moments in the past.

They were not very well know in Mexico -maybe they got some recognition after 'Beeing Caught Stealing' but not really too much- so that over-rated band status doesn't fit into my personal view at all. But as a J.A. old fan i'm glad they got some big credit outside. To me they were awesome.

Okay, I took the bait and agreed that Jane's addiction suck, perhaps not

because they are LA glam metal (and I know all that stuff too...was a

massive WASP fan in particular), but...dunno. Something about them just

annoys me. Perhaps it's the adulation they got that overshadowed other

bands that I thought were far more deserving...

Saying something is just 'LA rock' or whatever isn't really a fair

criticism...even though I'm not really into that sound. Motley Crue etc

suck shit IMO, but not because they are LA glam metal or anything.

There's still some gems in that genre...Dream On by Aerosmith I rate as a

classic...most of the rest of their stuff seemed to be crowd pleasing pap,

Dream On to me is a hint of what they could have become if they had

ditched the circus sideshow and decided to make EPIC FUCKING MUSIC :).

Tyler's voice was legendary, until he screamed it to death.

GNR, well I'll agree to disagree, but I'll never have a fair perspective

because they 'groundbreaking' (for me) band that I was contemporary with

when I was rebelling at 13...
