Not quite that, but www.last.fm <http://www.last.fm/> is a brilliant
tool. It has a radio station where you type in a band name and it plays
you similar artists. If it hadn't been for that I'd never have
discovered some recent favourites (Cult Of Luna, Cabaret Voltaire,
Allerseelen).

If you have iTunes/iPod it tracks what you're listening to and builds
your own weekly charts (which is great for anal folk like myself, who
like these list things).

According to last.fm my top 10 artists are:

1 Depeche Mode

2 Allerseelen

3 Cabaret Voltaire

4 The Durutti Column

4 Cult of Luna

6 The Birthday Party

6 Siouxsie and the Banshees

8 Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

8 Old Man Gloom

10 Spear of Destiny

Oops - KJ is number 20, but these stats are since November 2006. In
reality my all-time favourite bands go something like:

Depeche Mode

The Cure

Siouxsie and the Banshees

Simple Minds (please don't laugh or throw stones)

Killing Joke

Einstuerzende Neubauten (pre Ende Neu)

Goldfrapp

Skinny Puppy

The Human League

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

Bubbling under: Barry Adamson, The Mars Volta, Muse, Cult of Luna, Talk
Talk, Chameleons, Interpol, Queen ('73-'75), Gary Numan, Killdozer,
Tears For Fears... Methinks I've said enough, now. Ahem.

Cheers,

Janean

There actually is a website or something where you type in a band name
and it gives 100 artists that are similar (i think it's based on actual
listener preferences_--but I can't find the printout I have with the
URL! Anyone heard of this?

You're right Greg... it would be nice if someone could make some
statistic work and make a top 10 of the whole Gathering (don't look at
me, i already erased a lot of e-mails)... there are some common tastes
here like Motorhead, Nick Cave, Gang of Four, New Model Army...

It's great to see such diversity among gatherers--everything
from "that makes sense bands" (Alex & Chris choosing Gang of Four, Devo,
etc) to obscure ambient electronica (I guess) to punk (right on, Oliver)
to mainstream stuff (TB and Javier)!
