Definately a huge Beefheart element to the Stump guitar approach. Not to mention the bass, drums and vocals. The thing with Chris Salmon is that, no matter how chaotic and weird his playing got, there was always a melody at the core of it. I love that.

I would class his playing as a continuation of what Beefheart was doing with The Magic Band really . . see also Larry Lalonde . .

Chris Salmon of STUMP! A complete reinvention of what a guitar can do, right there. I also really like Duane Denison circa the glory days of the Jesus Lizard (Head/Goat/Liar).
