Well, sometimes the muddy road ends up in a cul de sac..

Yes it is possible that you may end up in a muddy country road a long way from your departure point, but a muddy country road is a better place to be then a stagnant intellectual cul de sac , the same cul de sac that you started from .
  When you get to that muddy country road, you can look back on your journey , that cant be said if youre still in  that same cul de sac that you began from
