[kj] That troll guy's on-list rehashing of the Iraq war stuff

Last word on reasons for US invasion of Iraq:

Slavoj Zizek gave a great story about what the logic behind the invasion
- as presented to the US public by actual policymakers (and not armchair
cyber-warriors like Mr. Black, or other
aggro-but-can't-be-bothered-to-fight-myself pro-war bloggers):

"In order the render the strange logic of dreams, Freud cited the old
joke about the borrowed kettle: 1) I never borrowed a kettle from you,
2) I returned the kettle to yu intact, 3) the kettle was already broken
when I got it from you. Such an enumeration of inconsistent arguments,
of course, confirms exactly what it endeavours to deny -- that I
returned a broken kettle to you. That same inconsistency [Zizek argues]
characterized the justification of the attack on Iraq, whereby a link to
Saddam's regime and al-Qaeda was transformed into the threat posed by
the regime to the region, which was then further twisted into the menace
hanging over everyone (but the US and Britain above all) of WMDs. When
no significant weapons were actually found, we were treated to the same
bizarre logic: OK, the two labs we found don't really prove anything,
but even if there were no WMDs in Iraq, we can still come up with other
good reasons to have toppled Saddam..."

Good stuff!
