Punk was a name banded around in states, before the UK, and many Americans 
will stake claim to the 'genre'. Most UK punks didn't even call themselves 
punk..it hails more from CBGBs and Richard hell etc..McClaren marketed it 
very successfully. It's what he's good at. I personally think scenes and 
genres suck....and always thought it a bit daft to call myself punk or goth 
or whatever...sheep are sheep I suppose....and Malcolm made money from them, 
which Lydon sued for and won, a  few years later :)
