Yes -- GOD FORBID any of us DARE think for ourselves or have an opinion that strays from the party line.
Just because I think HOSANNAS is an *UNDERCOOKED* album (and it is) and because I like ELECTRIC by the Cult (whom the `Joke are peers of -- like it or not) does not mean my faith in the `Joke is swayed in the slightest. This does not mean, however, that every time the `Joke release a damp fart, I'm obliged to act like it smells like roses.

I actually think Brighter Than is pretty good, better than Electric, at least. I will agree with you on OTG. I still don't agree with you on Hossanas. I think that it is a strong record and has excellent definition, structure and a very solid rhythm section. I have heard this before regarding BTTS being an attempt by the Joke to sell-out. Again, I don't hear it and even thinkh that the record is unique and interesting. The only record by the Joke I think is shite is OTG, but I do like a couple of songs, Teuhaunaco being one. The pre-Electric Cult is more edgy and I think excellent, but it's no Killing Joke, not even close. There is a spirit and energy in Killing Jokes music that for me very few bands have even come close to. The Cult is not one. Isn't that why we are here, why we obsess with this band? Isn't that why there is a Gathering? Killing Joke shouldn't be compared to The Cult.

Fair enough, Bill -- though I think you're a bit harsh on the Cult, there. Moreover, the Cult's pre-ELECTRIC incarnations are closer to the `Joke than you realize. Regardless, their mophing into a goofy metal band is no more ludicrous than the `Joke's attempt to morph into a comparatively slick singles act circa BRIGHTER THAN A THOUSAND SUNS (to say nothing of OUTSIDE THE GATE).
My feelings about ELECTRIC being better than HOSANNAS stem from the fact that --regardless of style and/or subject matter and/or length of the players' hair -- ELECTRIC is a better *sounding* record with *fully fleshed out songs* that was recorded with some degree of finesse with a regard to how the finished product was going to sound. HOSANNAS, meanwhile, lacks definition, structure, cohesion and the sound of a discernible rhythm section. Thus, ELECTRIC remains the superior album in terms of (my) listening enjoyment.

OK, I've sat back and read all about the Cult and I'll admit I thought they were a great band, but I wouldn't even put them in the same league as KJ. Firstly, the Cult and KJ are completely different styles and even genres of music. The Cult is primarily a good Rock N Roll band, but there music never brings out the emotions that KJ music does. This is especially true with Hossanas. Comparing Electric to Hossanas is ludicrous. There is no comparison. There is nothing similar! They are actually almost opposites. Electric is a boring Rock N Roll record with a couple of catchy tunes with very sellable names like "Wild Flower" and "Lil Devil". Hossanas goes way deeper and paints a picture of the way the World is today like it or not. I frankly am sick of the catchy music that sells well. I want hear music that moves me. Yeah every so often it is nice to rock out and get pissed and not think about much and the Cult, especially, Electric work perfectly.
