i wondered the same when half the nation condemned "Fahrenheit 911" 
before it came out a few years ago...the television media had a field 
day chastising even the very idea of the movie...and of course talk 
radio did the same with vigor.

and more recently "an inconvenient truth" received the a drudging as well.
