Go back and listen to the original version of YRGM by The Kinks and listen
to VH's version. They absolutely made that song their own, no question about
it. It still holds up almost 30 years later while The Kinks version sounded
dated the moment Van Halen released their version back in '78.
And Van Halen, especially Eddie' guitar playing was and still is a *huge*
influence on just about everyone who picked up a electric guitar from '78
onward. Most knowledgeable people will say Edward Van Halen is probably
among the top 5 most influential guitarists in rock n' roll to this day
despite the fact the guy has become a burned out weirdo. Even Dave Navarro
has gone on record as saying Eddie was one of his biggest influences and in
fact, Dave had a custom EVH stripped guitar made for him for Jane's '01
tour.
Jane's was influential as well but not nearly on the same scale as Van
Halen. And that statement isn't a matter of any personal bias, it's a simple
fact.

That's your own opinion but I'd guess you're in a very small minority of
people who like "music."
