Completely agree. It was funny how later in the game he suddenly 
*wasn't* applying the letter of the law anymore (including an easy 
yellow on a dangerous tackle by an American just outside their box, 
which wasn't whistled at all)...almost realizing/saying to himself, 
"Boy, I can't very well go down to 9-on-7 or 8-on-8, can I?"

Considering Pope at least got the ball first (replays confirmed) on the 
tackle that sent him off--he could have at least gotten a verbal 
talking-to. That's what stunned me in this game and a few others: 
players not appearing to get any "that's your last chance" type of 
warnings, and now tons of key players are missing match 3.

That said, it was nice to see the U.S. play the way they're capable of. 
They're not flashy or very refined on the ball (lol), but when they play 
with tempo and cohesion, they can be the entertaining underdog--much 
better than sitting in a plodding defensive shell.
