I've found alcohol to be totally ineffective against anxiety due to a
bounce-back effect. Not effective for sleep, either, with any more
than 3-4 oz. Otherwise I fall asleep, wake up a couple hours later,
and cant' get back to sleep. A bit like Jaz complains about....

I've been blessed with moderation, so this has never been a problem
for me. For someone else who goes OTT in everything he does, best to
avoid the stuff.

Nicotine, however, might not be as bad an idea for Jaz as it might
seem. The harsh smoke is far from ideal, of course. I have gone
through periods where I crave nicotine, where it has a useful calming
effect. And then I'm able to put it right down again when it no
longer helps. Not a common trait, I understand, and I'm thankful for
that.
