no not really. They made their point and let you go on and decide what you
wanted to do about it. When all the socialist revolutionaries had deserted
the miners in 84, the likes of crass were still churning out benefits for
the families. The number of bands who got a heads up start either at their
gigs or via the bullshit detectors or were encouraged to do it themselves.
They were a big thorn in the side of those who wanted to make 'punk' an even
bigger rip off and when did you hear of any other band being discussed in
Parliament over anti war songs?

I was very close to the crass camp in those days and was witness to the
police intimidation, the pressure from the establishment, the fans who
seemed to miss the point but who were never 'put down' or ridiculed. The
rise of CND at that time was undisputedly aligned with the use by Crass of
the peace symbol which was not prominent at that time. How naiive was that?

When 'punk' bands decided that they were now more 'Sophisticated' youd still
find crass playing with the subs in a dingy old pub.

Naiive? I saw the other year Ignorant, Pen and Gee at Dial House still
living to their ideals. Annie is now busy in New York. Andy is an artist in
Cornwall i believe. Pete has a folk band and regularly appears at the Essex
Jazz festival. Phil and Joy are still very active in South London. Eve is
still involved with Crass Agenda.

You can only do what you think is appropriate and they are not really open
to critisism on that subject. How can that be naiive?
