The band were in good spirits having spent (with the exception of
Geordie) most of the afternoon with fans in the Speak Easy pub. Very
powerful opening to the set, Communion / Wardance / Primitive & a
blinding version of Frenzy a bit later. However, there was not much
of a spectacle to view. Jaz was really trying and I felt for him,
particularly when Geordie sat on the drum riser for part of Majestic
& leant up against the side monitors later in the set. What's that
about ?
It all became a bit pedestrian, Kniall / Neil, nice bloke that he is,
does not have much stage presence & is not accurate in many of the
songs. The band's sound, like on the new album lacked definition &
clarity and having waited over 10 years & dozens of shows for
Unspeakable to be played again was left deflated at the poor
rendition offered, Benny powerful & fast that he his takes too many
short cuts with the floor tom.
A good night had by all, but this incarnation of KJ is probably the
poorest I have ever witnessed in 25 years of following the band.
Still good enough for 6 / 10 though (leaving Numan 2 points clear !!)
