"so how come MC sell bucket loads of tickets and KJ struggle to shift a
handful"

Because not everyone takes their music listening as seriously as we
might. If one's not especially bothered to go seek out less immediately
accessible, less radio-friendly music, one will probably just make do
with what's fed to them and get comfortable with that. As such, one
could come to the conclusion that Motely Crue were the quintessence of
rock abandon, having never bothered to seek that which might be
superior or more cathartic or simply more interesting. When you're too
lazy to get up off your arse and see what's being served on the buffet
table, the bread rolls in the basket in front of you probably seem
pretty sufficient.

Arena rock is the sonic equivalent of Soylent Green (alluding to the
film, not the band).....easily digestible, mindless pablum.

Alex in NYC....who admittedly owns the Crue's first couple of albums
from back when he was a recovering metalhead.
